WHAT IS HAPPENING AT THE REITZEL SENIOR CENTER
Senior Games 2008 and Silver Arts was held in Randolph County April 19 thru May 2. Several seniors from the Reitzel Center participated and won medals: Raymond Arrington won Gold and Bronze medals in football throw, soccer ball kick and discus;
Margel Arrington won Gold and Bronze medals in basketball shooting, softball throw, and dis cus; Ervin Spinks won Silver and Bronze medals in checkers and shuffleboard; George Coltrane won Gold and Bronze medals in checkers and shuffleboard; Hazel Poulin won Gold and Bronze medals in Silver Arts (stained glass trays) and shuffleboard; Brenda Garrett won a Bronze medal in Silver Arts (writing); Betty Patterson won Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals in shuffleboard, basketball shooting and softball throw;
Nellie Patterson won a Gold medals and 1st place in shuffleboard. On May 2 the Performing Art Follies was held, the Line Dancing Team from Liberty “The Trashy Ladies of Liberty” won a Gold medal. The Trashy Ladies were Nellie Patterson, Sarah Check, Hazel Poulin and Laurel Ramos. May 6th was Craft Day and several of the ladies made Mother’s Day Brooches out of buttons. May the 14th the seniors headed up to Archdale for the 2nd Annual Spring Fling. May 19th we had a Birthday Party for George Coltrane and Lessie Pickard. May 1st was Volunteer Recognition Day and the seniors would like to thank all the volunteers especially Ronald Bowden and Milton Piedra for helping with the Meals-On-Wheels and all the other people in the Liberty Community who volunteer for Meals-On-Wheels. Kevin Bowman from the Liberty Leader Newspaper was also recognized for provides the center with a section for our monthly calendars, pictures, activities and events. The seniors would like to thank Ronald, Milton and Kevin for being volunteers who are truly the “Hearts of our Community.”
