25 Years Helping Homeless Animals

After many years working in the Animal Control industry of North Carolina,
Cheryl Routh saw first hand the need for another option for the homeless
animals of the area. The county shelters were extremely overcrowded as
they remain today. Adoption programs were almost non-existent with over 90
percent of the homeless being doomed to euthanisia due to lack of funds
and space. A better option for these innocent lives needed desperately to
be found. Happy Hills Animal Foundation was "born" 20 years ago out of a
dream for a better option!!!!

In 1986 this dream took shape as Happy Hills Animal Foundation. Originally
HHAF served the local area. Through the years the foundation has reached
out statewide and with internet technology nationwide. By 1989 the rescue
work had grown so much that Happy Hills Animal Foundation was incorporated
as a non-profit organization.
Happy Hills recieves no state or federal funding. This dream is supported
entirely from private donations, sponsors, gifts and volunteers. Rising
costs have found the foundation reaching out to a community that cares.

Abigail
Female
Border Collie Mix
Birthdate: March 21, 2005

Abigail is a special girl to the HHAF staff. She was found on a busy highway near our shelter. She waited by the busy interstate highway for several days .... avoiding capture by our staff ... Her former owner dumped her there and being a trusting soul she just knew they would return to get her. After several days had past and no owner had returned for her she allowed herself to be caught. Lonely and very hungry Abigail found herself in the care of the HHAF staff. She had recently had puppies and was suffering from a severe case of mastistis. She is currently still being treated and is recovering well. Abigail is a young one to two year old Border Collie mix female. She is medium sized at about 40 pounds. She
is a loving and trusting girl that loves attention from her caretakers
